1.3 High School Enrollment FAQs (Utah)
Q: Will my student earn a state-certified diploma from their school of enrollment?
A: No, your student will not earn a state-certified diploma upon completing their 12th grade year.
Students who complete 12th grade with OpenEd may request an OpenEd Certificate of Completion, which recognizes their full participation in the program.
If your student decides they would prefer to pursue a traditional diploma pathway, a transition may be possible between school years, depending on the policies and requirements of the program they enroll in. Mid-year changes are typically not permitted.
If your student's long-term goal is a fully traditional, state-certified diploma program, we encourage you to carefully review available options to ensure the pathway you choose aligns with those goals from the start.
Q: What curriculum options can my high school student use?
A: Your student can utilize any of the curriculum options available in our marketplace, including:
- Early college credit options
- On-site split enrollment classes
- CTE courses
- Publicly available classes in your community
- Educational curriculum and resources available outside of OpenEd
- Technical college courses (which are FREE in Utah)
Q: Is help available if I want to discuss my student's high school experience?
A: Yes! Please request a consultation with one of our dedicated specialists through this form.
Q: Can my student still get into a great college?
A: Absolutely. Most higher education institutions will provide a way, whether by reviewing a portfolio of work, requiring a high ACT or SAT score, or asking for a transcript of any early college credits earned by your student.
We recommend contacting the universities your student is interested in to verify their entrance requirements.
Note: OpenEd is not a credit recovery program and cannot replace failed or incomplete credits. Recovery plans must be handled through the school of enrollment.
