2.2 Education Plan Requirements (Texas)
Required Subjects
Your student’s education plan includes a few required subjects based on their grade level. These core subjects help us maintain compliance and ensure a well-rounded learning experience.
Grades K–6
Students in grades K–6 are expected to participate in the following subjects each week throughout the school year:
- English Language Arts
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
- Physical Education
- Technology
- Fine Arts (Art, Music, or Theater)
These foundational subjects cover key areas of early learning. Families are also welcome to add optional independent study subjects to explore other interests.
Grades 7-8
Students in grades 7-8 are expected to participate in the following subjects each week throughout the school year:
- English Language Arts
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
- Physical Education
- Technology
- One elective of your choosing
How Required Subjects Affect Your Student's Day-to-Day Learning
Your education plan informs what your student will add to their weekly learning log. Through the learning log, your student will submit a short reflection on any subject area or competency that they focused on over the last week.
Your student's teacher will review their learning logs to track their participation, as well as to provide some positive and supportive feedback.
As you think about the areas your student will study regularly, use those required subjects to meet the minimum education plan requirements for their grade level. Sometimes you’ll just choose a subject, and other times you’ll pick a specific course too. It’s that simple!
Making Changes To Your Student's Education Plan
Past a certain point during the semester, you won't be able to make changes to your student's required subjects (or any electives).
Independent studies, however, can be changed at any point during the school year. Feel free to add or drop an independent study from your student's education plan at any time.
