2.9 Daily Live Learning FAQs (Colorado)
Q: How do students meet Colorado's live learning requirement?
A: Colorado requires students to complete 90 hours of live learning each semester. Participating in approximately five hours of live learning each week is the recommended pace to help students stay on track.
OpenEd offers a variety of live learning opportunities throughout the week, allowing families to choose the combination of activities that best fits their student's interests, schedule, and learning preferences.
Students may participate in any combination of:
-
Morning Meetings (daily at 9:00 AM MST) – designed for younger students
-
Drop-In Tutoring (daily at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM MST)
-
Colorado Daily Live Learning (daily at 11:00 AM MST)
-
Flex Fridays (Fridays at 10:00 AM MST)
-
Community Clubs and Virtual Events
Families are welcome to mix and match these opportunities throughout the semester to meet Colorado's live learning requirement.

A: Colorado Daily Live Learning is a one-hour live learning opportunity offered every school day where students connect with Colorado teachers and classmates through engaging, interactive activities.

Q: Does my student have to attend every day?
A: Nope! Colorado Daily Live Learning is one of several live learning opportunities available each week.
Families may choose the combination of live offerings that best meets their student's needs while working toward Colorado's 90-hour live learning requirement each semester.

Q: Will the activities stay the same every week?
A: No! While the daily schedule remains consistent, the weekly themes will change throughout the year to keep learning exciting.
Examples include:
- Space Week
- Ocean Week
- Animals
- Inventors
- National Parks
- Around the World
- Makers Week
Q: Will my child be with students their own age?
A: Yes. After the whole-group opening, students move into grade-level breakout rooms:
- K-5
- 6-12
This allows teachers to provide activities that are appropriate for each age group.
Q: Do all of my children need to attend at different times?
A: No! All Colorado students are welcome to attend the same daily Colorado Teacher Live Session. Families with multiple enrolled students may have siblings participate together using the same meeting link.
Q: Does a parent need to be present?
A: We highly encourage a parent or caregiver to be available during live sessions, especially for younger students.
Having an adult nearby can help students stay engaged, assist with technology, and provide support if needed. Older students may be able to participate more independently.
Q: Will my student have the same teacher every day?
A: Students will become familiar with the entire Colorado teaching team. Teachers rotate through the daily sessions, allowing students to build relationships with multiple teachers while maintaining a consistent daily schedule.
Q: How do we join the Colorado Teacher Live Session?
A: Families will use the same meeting link every day. There is no need to remember different links or schedules—simply join the recurring meeting at the scheduled time.
Q: What if my student joins late?
A: No problem! Students are welcome to join the session even if they arrive a little late. Teachers will help students get settled into the current activity.
Q: What if my student is shy or doesn't like speaking on camera?
A: That's perfectly okay! We understand that every student is different, and there are many ways to participate in Colorado Daily Live Learning.
Students are encouraged to engage at the level that feels comfortable for them. Some students enjoy speaking and participating right away, while others prefer to observe at first and gradually become more involved as they build relationships with their teachers and classmates.
Participation can include:
- Speaking during discussions
- Responding in the chat
- Participating in games and activities
- Sharing work or ideas
- Simply listening and learning until they're ready to engage more
Our goal is to create a welcoming, supportive environment where every student feels comfortable participating in their own way and at their own pace.
Q: What should my student bring?
A: Most sessions require only basic school supplies such as paper, pencils, or crayons. Occasionally, teachers may invite students to bring a simple item for an activity or Show and Tell. Families will be notified in advance whenever special materials are needed.
Q: How will attendance be tracked?
A: Attendance is recorded for each live learning opportunity. Participation in Morning Meetings, tutoring, Community Clubs, Virtual Events, and Colorado Daily Live Learning all count toward Colorado's recommended goal of five hours of live learning each week, helping students work toward the state's requirement of 90 hours of live instruction each semester.
Q: Does my child need to attend all five days?
A: Students are expected to participate in the required amount of live learning each semester, 90 hours. Attending the daily sessions helps ensure students meet Colorado's live learning expectations while building relationships with teachers and classmates.
Q: How can families support their students?
A: Families can help students succeed by:
- Logging in on time each day.
- Encouraging active participation.
- Helping students find a quiet learning space when possible.
- Celebrating their child's creativity, curiosity, and learning.
