3.1 Teacher Engagement (OpenEd Academy)
Your student's homeroom teacher is here to help.
Throughout the year, they'll support your family's academic vision and keep you informed about your student's progress in their classes.
Here's what to expect:
Getting Started
Once your student is enrolled in OpenEd Academy, they'll receive a welcome email that includes a few slides to help them get to know their teacher.

This email will also include a link for your family to schedule a 15-30 minute consultation. This initial conversation is designed to answer your questions and make sure you feel confident about kicking things off.
Note: Your student's teacher will reach out to schedule seasonal consultations, too. If you'd like to meet more regularly, just send them an email - they'd be happy to chat.
Weekly Cadence - By Grade
For Grades K-3:
Every day, your student's homeroom teacher will host an optional 30-minute morning meeting where your student can participate in fun community-building activities and connect with friends.
Once a week, they'll update a weekly bulletin board that includes important links, info on upcoming events, and other helpful reminders.
As frequently as you'd like, you'll receive a progress report from your student's teacher. (You can ask to receive this report weekly, monthly, quarterly - it's up to you.)
This progress report will include an update on how your student is doing in each of their subjects.
In their email, your student's teacher might also include some additional resources, like a link to sign up for our drop-in tutoring sessions.

Tutoring & Support
While your student's homeroom teacher is always happy to answer your questions or talk through your gameplan for the school year, they won't be able to offer individual tutoring sessions.
However, OpenEd Academy is proud to offer free, live tutoring from September through May led by a team of certified teachers.
If your student needs help with a concept or skill, you can sign up for a virtual tutoring session from OpenEd’s in-house tutors through the Tutoring tile in your student’s library.
From that tile, click on the link under the Access Instructions. That will take you to a form where you can fill in a few details about what kind of support your student needs.

Homeroom Teachers vs. Instructors
All of the courses that your student signs up for through the OpenEd Academy marketplace will have an assigned instructor - meaning a teacher who will review their classwork, hold office hours for content-specific questions, and offer other support related to that course.
If your student has a question about a specific course, their instructor is the right person to talk to.
If your student is looking for more generalized support, like setting goals or figuring out the right curriculum for their learning style, then their homeroom teacher is a great place to start.
