3.4 Experience Based Learning (OpenEd Academy)

Along with selecting from the wide range of educational resources available through OpenEd Academy's marketplace, you also have the option to include an experience based learning opportunity to qualify for credit on your student's official transcript.

What Is Experienced Based Learning?

The umbrella of experience based learning encompasses a large variety of enriching, hands-on activities.

Your student's learning experience could be, for example, a semester-long internship or a weekly music class.

(To accurately reflect the rigor and intensity of the experience, you can choose to submit a 1 credit, 0.5 credit, or 0.25 credit experience based learning request through the marketplace.)

Some learning experiences that OpenEd Academy students have pursued for credit:

  • Piano lessons

  • Ballet class

  • Martial arts training

  • Participation in a theater production

  • Swim team

  • Aerial silks class

After you complete that form, submit it for our Academic Counselor to review.

What To Expect After Your Request Is Approved

After your request is approved, our Academic Counselor will work with you to create a new portfolio for your course using the platform Unrulr.

Together, you’ll create a course description, curriculum and instructor record, and student performance goals.

Then, our Academic Counselor will set up a time for you and your student to meet with the supervising teacher for the course.

Note: This meeting with the supervising teacher is a great time to clear up any questions and establish meaningful checkpoints with plenty of opportunities to celebrate your student’s progress.

Once your portfolio is complete, your supervising teacher will write up a final review and submit a course grade to be included in your student’s transcript.

You’ll receive confirmation of your student's credit from our Academic Counselor.
