6.2 Oregon OSAS (Oregon)

The Oregon OSAS (Oregon Statewide Assessment System) assessments measure how well students are learning state standards in English Language Arts, Math, and Science.

They help teachers and schools understand student progress, identify areas for support, and ensure students are on track for future success.

Q: Which students need to take the OSAS? 

A: Oregon students in grades 3-8 will need to take the OSAS for English Language Arts and Math. 

Students in grades 5 and 8 will also need to take the OSAS for Science.

Q: When will this assessment be administered? 

A: Each subject of the OSAS is administered once a year in the Spring.

Q: Is this assessment virtual or in-person? 

A: The OSAS is administered virtually. 

Q: How do I schedule this assessment? 

A: Our team will be in touch to help you find a time that works via Calendly! 

Q: What should my student expect during the assessment? How long will it take?

A: Sessions are scheduled for approximately two hours, but your student might finish sooner.

The goal is to provide enough time so your student doesn’t feel rushed and can work at a comfortable pace!

On the day of your student's scheduled test, they will log into the secure OSAS testing platform (we'll send you details ahead of time). They may encounter a mix of multiple-choice, short-answer, and performance tasks.

A proctor will be available to assist with any technical issues. 

Q: What are the technology requirements for this assessment? What devices can my student use?

A: To take this assessment, your student will need to download a Secure Browser. Access the download link and system requirements here.

Q: Can I opt my student out of this assessment?

A: You may opt out of the English Language Arts, Math, and Science assessments through the Assessments tab of the OpenEd platform.

Important info for OSAS Science: 

Under Oregon Administrative Rule 581 – 021 – 009, parents may request that their student be exempted from taking the OSAS Science test to accommodate a student’s disabilities or religious beliefs.

Through the OpenEd platform, you will be asked to fill out an exemption form for review by your school of enrollment. You'll be notified whether your request for exemption is approved.
