The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) are statewide assessments that help districts measure student progress toward Minnesota's academic standards and meet the requirements of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).

Q: Which students need to take the MCA for Reading and Mathematics?
A: All Minnesota students in grades 3-8 will need to take the MCA for Reading and Mathematics.
Q: When will this assessment be administered?
A: The MCA for Reading and Mathematics is given once a year in the Spring.
Q: Is this assessment virtual or in-person?
A: This assessment is given in-person.
Q: How do I schedule this assessment?
A: You’ll be able to choose a date and time that works best for your family by visiting the Assessments tab in your OpenEd platform.
Q: What should my student expect during the assessment? How long will it take?
A: Students should expect to schedule two separate sessions: one for Reading, one for Mathematics.
Each session may take up to two hours.
A proctor will meet you at your testing location; they'll bring the device that your student will use during the assessment.
Q: What are the technology requirements for this assessment? What devices can my student use?
A: Your student's testing device will be provided by their proctor.
Their proctor will also give them scratch paper, a pencil, and headphones.
Q: What is the participation expectation for this assessment?
A: OpenEd students are expected to participate in the MCA for Reading and Math, but you can elect not to participate.
