# 6.3 STAAR Assessments (Texas)

STAAR is Texas's state testing program and is based on state curriculum standards in core subjects.

STAAR tests are designed to measure what students are learning in each grade and whether or not they are ready for the next grade.

### **FAQs**

**Q: Which students take the STAAR assessments?** 

**A:** OpenEd Texas students in grades **3-8** take the STAAR for **Reading Language Arts** and **Math.**

Students in grades **5** and **8** will also take the STAAR for **Science**.

Students in **8th grade** will also take the STAAR for **Social Studies**. 

**Q: When will this assessment be administered?** 

**A:** The STAAR is administered **once a year** in the **Spring**. 

**Q: Is this assessment virtual or in-person?** 

**A:** This assessment is administered **in-person**. 

**Q: How do I schedule this assessment?** 

**A:** Scheduling will be available directly through the **Assessments** tab of [your OpenEd platform!](http://opened.co/login)

**Q: What is the participation expectation for this assessment?** 

**A:** OpenEd students are expected to participate in the STAAR assessments.
