6.4 Interim Assessments (Oregon)
As part of Oregon’s updated accountability requirements, students enrolled in OpenEd in grades K-10 may be expected to participate in Interim Assessments during the 2026-27 school year.
For the 2026-27 school year, OpenEd will use Renaissance Star Interim Assessments. Star assessments are designed to be shorter, adaptive assessments that provide quick insight into student learning progress while minimizing testing time and disruption to instruction.
Why OpenEd Selected Renaissance Star
OpenEd selected Renaissance Star because the assessments are:
- Short and designed to reduce testing fatigue
- Adaptive to each student’s current learning level
- Intended to provide fast, actionable learning insights
- Less disruptive than many traditional assessment experiences
Interim Assessment Exemption Requests
Families who are unable to participate in Interim Assessments due to disability or religious belief reasons may submit an Interim Assessment Exemption Request for district review.
Exemption requests are reviewed by district partners based on the information submitted by the family.
You’ll be able to submit the Interim Assessment Exemption Request form through the OpenEd platform at the start of the school year. This form will require:
- The exemption category (disability or religious belief)
- A written explanation from the parent/guardian
- A proposed alternative individualized learning activity
All requests are reviewed by district partners for consideration.
OpenEd will continue working closely with families and district partners to make this process as clear and supportive as possible throughout the school year.
