The MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessment is a computer-based reading test that allows you to track your student's progress throughout the school year.

Q: Which students take the MAP assessment?

A: Nevada students in grades K-3

Q: When will this screener be administered?

A: This screener is administered three times a year in the Fall, Winter and Spring.

Q: Is this screener virtual or in-person?

A: This screener is administered virtually.

Q: How do I schedule this screener?

A: Once the scheduling window opens, you will be able to set a time through the Assessments tab of the OpenEd platform.

Q: What should my student expect during the screener? How long will it take?

A: The MAP assessment usually takes about one hour to complete.

This computer-adaptive test will respond to your student individually; if they answer a question correctly, a harder question is provided. If they answer a question incorrectly, an easier question is provided.

Content focus by grade:

Kindergarten: Foundational skills like letter recognition, beginning phonics, and basic vocabulary.

1st grade: Phonics, text comprehension, and vocabulary in context (using sentence clues to figure out what a word means).

2nd grade: More in-depth text comprehension (cause and effect, comparing and contrasting), craft and structure (point of view, text features like bolded words or captions), vocabulary acquisition (words with multiple meanings, prefixes/suffixes).

3rd grade: Comprehension and analysis, more in-depth craft and structure, vocabulary (figurative and more abstract language).
