Q: Which students take Utah RISE? 

A: Utah students in grades 3-8 take the Utah RISE assessment.

The subjects that your student will be tested in depends on their grade level.

  • ELA: 3-8th grade
  • Math: 3-8th grade
  • Science: 4-8th grade
  • Writing: 5th and 8th grade

Q: When will this assessment be administered? 

A: This assessment is administered once a year in the Spring.

Q: Is this assessment virtual or in-person? 

A: This assessment is administered virtually. 

Note: If your student is taking any split-enrolled classes, then they will take this assessment in-person instead of virtually.

(But remember - you can choose to opt your student out of this assessment!)

Q: What should my student expect during the assessment? How long will it take?

A: Utah RISE is administered over multiple sessions specific to different subjects. Here's a breakdown of how long each subject usually takes:

  • ELA (3-8th grade): 90 minutes
  • Math (3-8th grade): 90 minutes
  • Science (4-8th grade): 60 minutes
  • Writing (5th and 8th grade): 60 minutes

Utah RISE uses the Cambium secure browser, through which your student will have access to tools like calculators and bookmarks.
