1.1A Enrollment Process (Kansas)

Step 1: Apply

It's likely that you've completed this step since you're on this page! We are excited that you have chosen to participate in the OpenEd program, which serves Kansas students in grades K-8!

After you apply, you'll hear from us shortly after about your acceptance. Once you receive that, you're ready to enroll!

  • Note: You'll receive one "acceptance" email per family. If you have multiple students, they're all covered with your acceptance.

Step 2: Enroll

Once your student’s application has been processed, the next step is to complete your enrollment tasks directly in the OpenEd platform. You'll receive specific login credentials to access your portal.

Each task will be clearly defined in the platform, so you can go through at your pace, but please be mindful of due dates related to each task.

You will need to submit the following documents as you enroll your student(s):

  • Birth certificate

  • Immunization record, exemption form, or written statement signed by one parent or guardian that the child is an adherent of a religious denomination whose religious teachings are opposed to such tests or inoculations.

  • Special Education documents (if applicable)

  • Proof of Kansas residency

    • Our preferred proof of residency is a Kansas driver's license that's valid through at least Dec. 1st, 2026 that reflects your current residential address.

      We can also accept the following documents (valid through Dec. 1st, 2026) that reflect your current residential address: Vehicle registration, car insurance document, current rental or lease agreement (dated within the past 12 months), current voter registration card ID renewal postcard

  • Health Assessment or religious exemption or extension letter

Info for families with a parent in the military

If your family is stationed outside of Kansas, you can enroll in the program by providing military orders; it's not required to provide proof of Kansas residency, as your military orders will temporarily replace the need for the proof of residency.

If your student lives in another state but your family is stationed in Kansas, you can enroll in the program by providing your military orders. Eventually, we will need you to provide proof of residency, but your military orders will suffice upon initial enrollment.

  • Once you submit your documents or information for review, our team will be hard-at-work reviewing the information! If for any reason we have questions or need clarifying information, we'll reach out directly to you.

Step 3: Design

Congratulations! Once your student’s enrollment tasks are all completed and approved, you will have access to start designing your student's personalized education plan! Information about this will unlock when we're ready for you to take action!
